One of the tallest statues on earth, towering over a limestone cultural park.
The centrepiece is a colossal statue of Lord Vishnu riding the mythical Garuda, standing 121 metres above the park - taller than the Statue of Liberty. Decades in the making and clad in copper and brass, it's genuinely striking up close in a way photos never quite capture. Walk right up to the base and crane your neck; the scale is hard to believe.
The statue rises from a vast park carved out of the local limestone, with towering stone pillars and wide plazas cut into the cliffs. Throughout the day the grounds host Balinese dance and cultural performances. It's a big, open space built for spectacle - a dramatic setting quite unlike anywhere else on the island.
Set high on the Bukit peninsula, the park's viewpoints open out over the dry, rolling south of Bali towards the sea. On a clear day you can see for miles across the peninsula. Whether you're drawn by the mythology or just the sheer scale, it's an impressive way to open a day in the south.
