Banyumala's draw is the pair of falls that drop together down a wide, moss-green rock face in the northern highlands. Fed by the mountains above, they spread into dozens of smaller ribbons after rain, framed by ferns and hanging jungle. It's a quieter, gentler waterfall than Bali's biggest - more of a hidden garden than a thundering giant.
Reaching the falls means a short walk down through the jungle - a series of steps and paths that wind past greenery and small streams. It's steep in a few places but not a serious hike, and the effort keeps the crowds away. You'll often have the base almost to yourself, which is rare for a Bali waterfall this pretty.
At the foot of the falls sits a wide, clear pool - one of the few in Bali calm and shallow enough to comfortably swim in. The water is cool and fresh straight off the mountain, with greenery all around. Bring a swimsuit and a change of clothes; most people can't resist getting in.
